I have mentored Markida since she was in 8th grade. We've done a lot in those past 5 years....more recently her first plane ride to Washington DC this past fall to visit her dream school, Howard University. She was accepted and earned a Gates Millennial Scholarship (read that - full ride!)
My mom and I were beyond thrilled to attend her graduation. Michelle Obama was the speaker and it was a huge event for all her classmates.
In memory of their classmate who was caught in gang crossfire.
